A friend asked me a while ago: What are the traditional foods of Finland? I didn’t have an answer. Of the many effects of global-
ization and digitalization, one is the loss of knowledge of traditional foods, recipes and food preparation methods. How often

do we eat traditional foods? Do we know how to prepare them?
Do we know their histories and origin stories? How are family recipes handed down today, if at all? How will traditional foods survive in the global world, or do they even have to? The Common Table is an experimental multi-channel audio documentary

about the traditional foods of Finland and Japan, how they are changing and what are the traditional foods of the future, looking at them from various, even contradicting angles.
