このプロジェクトでは、アメリカとレバノンの大学生に、建築の再利用という視点で、中之条の将来の可能性を想像してもらいました。グローバル化が進む中、単なる外的な押しつけにならないよう、自分の知らない地域/文化をいかに理解していけるかということは重要です。学生は、日本が抱えている過疎化、少子高齢化、空き家・廃校の増加という問題を踏まえ、現存する資源(物や人)をいかに活かしていけるか、そこにどんなデザインの可能性があるのかを検討しました。資源の有効利用は、今後も日本に限らず、世界共通の課題です。

In this project, architecture students in the US and Lebanon imagined the possible futures of Nakanojo with feedback from the local participants. As globalization continues to grow, expand, and evolve, it is critical to question how we understand and relate to the context of unfamiliar cultures so the design solution would not result in mere external impositions. Considering the issues Japan faces, such as depopulation, low birthrate, aging population, and increase in vacant houses and closed schools, how can we make the best use of existing resources (goods and people), and what are the possibilities for design interventions? In the era of environmental crisis, this question will continue to be relevant in Japan and worldwide.
