蚕は人間に馴化され、野生回帰能力を完全に失った唯一の変温動物とされている。
養蚕の起源は新石器時代からと言われ、品種改良や人工孵化などにより家畜化され、現在は衰退の一途をたどる。
本作は、蚕という種をメタファーとして、人類の進化を象徴化する試みである。

Sericulture, believed to have originated in the Neolithic period, involves the domestication of silkworms through selective breeding and artificial hatching.
