アニタ・ガラツツァは、故郷のオーストリア、ザルツカンマーグート地方に伝わる「グレックラー」という伝統を基に、日本の年代物の紙を使って身につけられる彫刻を制作しています。この伝統は1873 年に始まったものであり、それはウィーンで初めて日本という国が芸術を通して紹介されたのと同じ年でした。当時のオーストリアアルプスは貧しく、近代化により男たちは失業していました。施しを求めるため、彼らは紙の箱で帽子を作り、公現祭の前夜に一軒一軒を歩き回りました。
Based on the tradition of the “Glöckler” in her Austrian homeland the Salzkammergut, Anita Gratzer presents wearable sculptures from antique Japanese paper. This tradition began in 1873, the same year when Japan presented itself for the first time in Vienna as a nation through art. At that time, the region in the Austrian Alps was a poor area and men became unemployed due to modernization. In order to ask for alms, they created caps from paper boxes and walked from door to door on the last night before the Epiphany.
