2020 年、期せずしてコロナウィルスによるパンデミックが発生した。この間、人々は何を思い、何を感じたのだろうか。部屋の片側の竹の望遠鏡を覗くと、パンデミック前の過去の「思い出」が見える。反対側の望遠鏡を覗くと、パンデミック後の未来の「希望」が見える。鑑賞者は過去と未来に繋がれて、自身の想いも喚起される。この作品は、制限される日常を通して、 人々がどのように 「家族」、「友」、「故郷」、「自由」 を思っていたのかを、 日本を含め世界 16 カ国の子供たちから高年齢者 180 名に問うた、 特別な記録である。
The work documents the feelings of 180 individuals, from Nakanojo and 16 countries around the world. On one wall are pre-pandemic memories of the past and on the opposite wall are post-pandemic hopes for the future. The viewer is the link that connects the two. The words, seen through the bamboo telescopes, reveal that across different generations, different countries and different cultures the fundamental concepts we value most as human beings remain constant – family, friendship and home.
