Distant Intimacy Distant Intimacy

今回のパンデミックで人との身体距離や行動範囲に制限が置かれたことによって、その距離の「遠さ」を改めて意識させられた。一時的だとわかっているから余計、長引けば長引くほどこの新たな生活習慣をどこかで否定していることに気づく。このヘテロトピア的な新たな現実と、なれ親しんだ「いつもの」現実とのおぼつかない関係を空間で表現したいと思う。窓という一番身近な「境界」をぼかし、外と内の距離感を濁す。遠いのか近いのか。そんな曖昧さが、パンデミックで経験した新たな現実といつもの現実との距離感の曖昧さに呼応する。

The loss of the ordinary during the Pandemic penetrates into our reality with resistance. The ordinary distance is no longer ordinary—the long-distance attempts to disguise as an ever-close remoteness on virtual platforms. The enigmatic notion of distance lingers, pretending to be the norm but in a new norm. The new norm, however, is never going to be our norm because we know this change is temporary.
Effacing the frame that divides the outside and the inside blurs the distance between them. The reflected images are the multiplication of reality. Here the constructed reality obscures the line between the heterotopic otherness and the nostalgic ordinary.
