かつての吾妻地域では物資の輸送路として河川を盛んに利用していた。林業では伐採した木材を筏に組み、吾妻川経由で江戸へ送っていた。また、嘉永 7 年（1854）には、原町、山田、岩井の 3 つの河岸が、農産物などを輸送するために水運を開始している。その作業の際に河川の横断はどうしても必要となる。高架橋が無い時代は深い谷底へ降りて橋を渡らなくてはならなかった。しかし、その橋は増水の度に流されてしまう。この作品では、河川を支障なく横断するための工夫として、凧で浮かび上がる駕籠が考案されたと仮定した。
In the past, the Agatsuma region actively used the river as a transportation route for goods. In the forestry industry, lumber was cut down, rafted, and sent to Edo via the Agatsuma River. Also, in 1854, three boat docks in Haramachi, Yamada, and Iwai started water transportation to move agricultural products and other goods. River crossings were inevitably necessary for this operation. In the days when there were no elevated bridges, one had to descend to the bottom of a deep valley to cross a bridge. However, the bridge was washed away every time the water rose. In this work, I assumed that a palanquin that floats on a kite was devised as a way to cross the river without hindrance.
