十年も前に中之条に初めて滞在した。目の前で地面を叩いた雨水を吸って育った野菜を食べ、私はそのとき風景と自分の身体は連続しているのだと理解した。これらの作品はその連続を、見える範囲をこえた場所や年月まで伸ばし、恩恵と責任の循環として感じとろうとしたものだ。『green』は六合の伝統野菜に焦点を当て、生産者と種、それらが育つ環境との親密な関係を、植物の知覚を想像し記録する。一方『THE ROOM』では閉鎖生態系実験や植物工場を参考に、土地から離れ、内部で完結した生態系を保つ部屋に住む未来を想像する。
Yamada’s project in Nakanojo stems from her days in Nakanojo; the experience of living inside nature and eating what grows beside herself. In her practice, Yamada aims to broaden the range of unity with the landscape she felt so that the responsibility to the environment can be felt alongside the blessing of the harvest. In green, while imagining the senses of plants, Yamada highlights the heirloom seeds in Kuni to unfold the bond between farmers, the seeds they grow, and their environments. While in THE ROOM, Yamada makes an imaginary room holding a self-sustaining ecosystem, referring to experiments of closed ecological systems and plant factories, which underscores the complexities of ecosystems and the difficulty of replicating them.
