After the Rain After the Rain
日本の伝統的な民家において、土間と、それに続く板敷は、特徴的かつ重要な空間である。外との出入り口であり、炊事場や囲炉裏を囲む居間として機能し、さらには農作業などの作業場として、家族みんなの生活の中心の場であった。火も水も、汚れたものも、この空間は全て受け入れてくれたからである。家の長い歴史の中で起きたであろう、家族の様々な出来事や思い出の蓄積を想像し、そしてその中で浮かんでは消えた感情の広がりと共鳴に思いを馳せながら、今は静かにたたずむこの空間に作品を設置する。
In a traditional Japanese house, Doma (indoor dirt area) and the next wooden floor were essential for the family’s daily life because the area covering the house entrance was used as a kitchen, dining room, and workshop. This multipurpose space, between the indoor and outdoor, accepted fire, water, and dirty things that were risks for the home’s interior. My installation work is inspired by the accumulation of the family’s memories and the reflection of their feelings to each other in the vibrant area of the old days.
