旧五反田学校は母が小学校低学年の時に通っていた学舎だ。母について、ことさら昔の母のことなどほとんど知らないまま生きてきたように思う。母を亡くした今、直接聞くことは出来なくなってしまったが、多少なりとも母の子供の頃を辿ってみようと思い、母の生まれ育った五反田地区を歩き目に留まったものを描いていった。今回の取り組みを通して少しでも亡き母に近づき、私なりの供養ができればと思っている。生まれ育った五反田に、そして嵩山に還っていった母の姿を想像しながら、その想いを反芻するかのように筆を重ねて描いていった。
My mother attended Gotanda School in her early elementary school years. I feel as though I have lived my life knowing very little about my mother, especially her past. Now that I have lost her, I can no longer ask her directly. I wanted to trace her childhood a little, so I walked around the Gotanda area where she was born and raised, and drew things that caught my eye. I hope that, through this project, I can get closer to my late mother and offer my own memorial to her. I imagined my mother returning to Gotanda, where she was born and raised, and to Mount Takeyama, as I continued to paint and reflect on those feelings.
