森から始まるものづくり

もっとも私たちの馴染みある素材である「木」。古くは農具や飛行機のプロペラ、家を建てる材料など、使われていないものがないほど、身近で加工しやすい素材です。そして群馬県は森林面積が67%を超える木材の宝庫です。今回は群馬県産の木材を使った、みんなが触れて遊べるアート作品を制作してもらいました。木は種類によって、音が変わったり、それぞれ匂いが違ったり、人間のように多様性があります。作品を演奏している内に、誰もが木を使って、ものづくりをしたくなる作品です。

Manufacturing begins in the forest.

Wood is the material with which we are most familiar. It is so common and easy to process that it has long been used to make a wide variety of things, such as farming tools, airplane propellers, and building materials. Gunma Prefecture is a treasure trove of wood, with over 67% of its area covered by forests. This time, we asked participants to create artworks using wood from Gunma Prefecture that everyone can touch and play with. Different types of wood make different sounds, smell different, and are as diverse as human beings. It is a work that, as people play with it, makes everyone want to create things using wood.
