“Thle Pela Kano: Dream Listener” is a sculptural installation resulting from the interspecies collaboration that Elisa Malo establishes with Calea zacatechichi, a medicinal plant endemic to Mexico, known in Chontal as Thle pela kano, or bitter grass. Traditionally used to navigate the dream world, this herb becomes a living accomplice to the work: it listens to the dreams shared by the Nakanojo community, filters them through its own vegetal memory, and, together with the artist, transforms them into drawings that embrace its stems and leaves. The piece invites us to refocus our attention on often forgotten connections: the intimate cartography of our dreams and the sensitive relationship we hold with the botanical world.
