スペイン語で「dar a luz」という表現は、赤ちゃんが誕生する瞬間を意味します。しかし、文字通りに訳すと「光を与える」「光を贈る」となります。出産とは多くの謎を秘めた、唯一無二の瞬間です。私自身、それを最近、娘を出産した経験を通して実感しました。2023 年、私は妊娠数ヶ月の状態で中之条ビエンナーレを訪れました。
それは、私の中で育まれている命について、そしてそれがアーティストとしての私にどのような変化をもたらすのかについて深く思索する、美しい時間となりました。今年のテーマである「光の山」に呼応するように、私はこの体験とのつながりを感じました。そこで本作では、創造と内なる瞑想の瞬間を反映した、詩的で想像的なキャラクターたちのシリーズを制作しました。作品の舞台は温泉からインスピレーションを得ています。
In Spanish, the expression “dar a luz” refers to the moment of a baby’s birth. However, the literal translation would be “to give or donate light.” Giving birth is a unique moment that holds many mysteries, as I was able to experience myself during the recent birth of my daughter. In 2023, while a few months pregnant, I visited the Nakanojo Biennale. It was a beautiful moment to meditate on the life growing within me and on how it would also change me as an artist. In reference to this year’s theme, “Mountain of Light,” I felt it was related to that experience, so my work is a series of poetic and imaginary characters that reflect that moment of creation and inner meditation, where the setting was inspired by an onsen.
