These works are the result of a collaborative project initiated in 2016 by Japanese manga artist Tamura Yoshiyasu and Ukrainian photographer Marfa Vasilieva. In this series, Tamura applied body painting directly onto the models’ bodies, while Vasilieva selected the locations and poses and photographed the final compositions. The body painting motifs are inspired by Japanese mythology, particularly stories from the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters). Production was suspended following the outbreak of war in Ukraine; however, new works are expected to be created for the Nakanojo Biennale 2025. A collection of the collaborative works was published in 2023 by KYAS ART SALON in the Netherlands.
