繭の譜（まゆのうた） Fluctuations of Cocoons

たくさんの蚕が飼育され、繭が街へ運ばれ、生糸になって外国へ行った。それらがより遠くへ行けば行くほど故郷は栄え賑わい潤った。

野生には戻れない家畜化した飛べない蝶。幼虫の時は食欲旺盛に桑の葉を食べるのに、蛹以降は一切食べなくなる。成虫には食べるための口もない。なんだか切ない。

かつて、養蚕は日本各地で行われ、盛んに輸出されていた。日本が近代化した際の資金源になったともいわれる。そんな蝶々にこの国は支えられていた。養蚕業は衰退した今でも、羽化しない小さな揺らぎがそこかしこにある気がしてならない。

Many silkworms were raised, cocoons were brought to the city, and raw silk was sent abroad. The farther these silkworms went, the more prosperous, bustling, and rich their hometowns became. Domesticated, flightless butterflies that cannot return to the wild. As larvae, they eat mulberry leaves with a voracious appetite, but after the pupa, they stop eating altogether. And the adults have no mouths to eat. It is a little sad. In the past, sericulture was practiced throughout Japan and was actively exported. It is said to have been a source of funding for Japan’s modernization. Even though the sericulture industry has declined, I cannot help but feel that there are still small fluctuations here and there that have not hatched.
