All Things for Good Lives
On the first rabbit day of the year, local people climb Mount Takeyama and set up a “Bonden” stand. At the tea ceremony for Tenjin Shrine, they receive names originally based on traditional names of flowers, birds, wind, and the moon, which later expanded to include crop names. They give various offerings to the gods and recite “Ogansho” prayers. There is also a rule that they must not keep chickens in the area. All of these customs have been practiced since ancient times for the sake of a happy, wonderful life. I think they are lovely, human acts carried out with thought for oneself and for the community.
