The Dreams of Brave Men

Set in the wooden building of the former Gotanda School, which had long served as a place of learning for the local community, this multi-layered installation features sculptures made from lumps of aged wood such as zelkova, horse chestnut, nara, and mahogany. These have been carved, polished, and stacked into wood blocks of varied luster, and are shown alongside Mitsunashi’s earlier ceramic works.
As his time grew short with each passing moment due to illness, Mitsunashi poured his passion into creating to the very limit, while struggling with the pain that prevented his body from moving as he wished. The creation and destruction of beauty. Wabi-sabi. A Mitsunashi-style homage to the ancient ruins that remain, transcending time.
