光ノ山ヘ Toward the Mountain of Ligh
ずっと舟をつくってきました。舟という容れ物が私には必要でした。
老い、老々介護、病、別れ… 時の容赦ない流れに沈みそうになる自分を保つため、微かな希望を保つため、私には舟が必要でした。舟は希望の容れ物だから。
その地に生まれた舟は、その地で育ち、その地の自然の中で、時の容赦ない流れを受け容れ、やがてその地の土へと還っていく。その過程すべてが作品と考えています。
展示終了後この舟は解体され、どんど焼で焚き上げられます。舟は炎の「光ノ山」となり、彼方へ還っていくのでしょう。
I’ve been creating ephemeral boats. I need a “container” called a boat. Aging, caring for my aged family, facing disease, and parting with loved ones, I need a boat to keep myself from sinking in the merciless flow of time, to hold on to a dim hope. A boat is a container for hope. A boat that is born on a site and grows with the found materials there, accepting the local nature and the passage of time, will eventually decay and return to earth. I consider the entire process to be a work of art. After the exhibition, the boat will be dismantled and burned in a Dondo-Yaki (Japanese traditional fire ceremony). The boat itself will become a flaming “Mountain of Light” and return to where it should be.
