Nakanojo, Gunma has gradually become a familiar place to me—somewhere I return to with a sense of ease. I look forward to working here not only because of the landscape and atmosphere, but because of the many meaningful encounters that happen through making. Over time, I have built connections with artists, cultural workers, and members of the community, and these relationships continue to shape how I approach my work in this place.

そうか！　ひかりのやまは　ぼくが　いままで　みてきた　うつくしい　しぜんや　うみだされる　たからもの、そして　たのしそうな　ひとびとの　くらし…　なかのじょうの　ゆたかさや　にぎわいの　ぜんぶの　ことだったんだ。

Participating in the 2025 Nakanojo Biennale was an incredibly rewarding experience. In particular, my venue, Yamase, along with the residence nearby, allowed me to feel the layers of stories and everyday Japanese rural life.
I am also deeply grateful to all the staff members. They were supportive and made me feel truly privileged to work as an artist. Each exhibition site has a strong character and is very inspiring. I hope to have another chance to create new work in these unique spaces.

The experience offered by the Biennale is a blessing in my life. My art practice is inspired by the creativity of all the artists. The biennale team is kind, thoughtful and very supportive. The opportunities I have had to make work in Nakanojo have shaped my career. The aesthetic sensibility and culture of Japan has informed my visual language, and seeing how other artists respond to place and space influences me. I love the beauty of the area and the spaces offered to the artists.

Yamase is a fantastic place where one can respond wonderfully to the surroundings. It is a place with history, featuring extraordinary buildings. My great joy was finding many objects from the past in the storage house that was my exhibition space. Initially sorting and organizing them was incredibly thrilling and interesting. Later, integrating my golden collection into the house, so that it became a large treasury—a gold chamber—was the most beautiful conclusion.

I feel truly lucky and grateful to be part of the Nakanojo Biennale. Creating art in Shima is one of my most cherished memories. The organizers, staff, locals, and fellow artists were all so welcoming and supportive. The events showcased an amazing range of art from around the world. Surrounded by mountains, nature, and hot springs, it was a true retreat and cultural renewal. We are all fortunate to share this inspiring experience. Thank you to the entire team!

現在我有點害怕面對在中之条時候的自己，那是全然純粹的狀態，相比之下現在我又回到迷惘掙扎的現實日常。

離開中之條之後，夢過幾次當時在山裡面遇到的日本鬣羚，醒來之後有強烈的失落感，而在後來一些特雷門琴的活動演奏小夜曲時，總是會想起那個黃昏。

慶幸中之条在我內心留下那樣的風景。

中之条の薬草に興味を持って初参加させて頂きました。
実際に来てみると、植物リサーチにはまだまだ時間が必要で、1、2年かけてゆっくり向き合ってみたい気持ちになりました。未知なるものがありそうです。
多くの作品からも来場者の反応からも刺激をもらいました。
昨年の下見の時、久しぶりに会った彫刻家の三梨さんから「中之条は本当に面白いよ。若い作家との出会いも楽しい。」と聞いて後押しされたことが思い起こされます。
心からご冥福をお祈りします。

いつも展示場所が決まると、何度も頭の中でぐるぐる反芻し、最適解を探す思考の旅をします。
そして解が出た後は、ほぼブレずに設営頑張るのが常なのですが、今回はちょっと違っていました。
そもそも地元の方々に「特別な場所」として常用されているこの庵。
私の様な外様が納得感出せるのかと４ヶ月間試行錯誤。
結果、四万の中でウン十年育まれたお湯と共に、そこから繋がっていく場所と時代を思い設営しました。
是非ゼヒ、今までと同じ様にゆっくりしていってもらえると嬉しいです。

2017年にはじめて中之条ビエンナーレに参加して、今年で5回目となりました。振り返れば、この8年のあいだに中之条の皆さんと本当に多くの時間を分かち合ってきました。出会いがあり、そして大切な別れもありました。そのどれもが心に刻まれ、いまの私へと続いています。
今回の作品「アワイコユ/leap」は、今の自分と未来の自分とのあいだで足踏みしている私を、そっと通してくれるポータルのような思いでつくりました。いつか地図の上にそのゲートが現れたとき、そこをくぐることで、それぞれの方がふと新しい自分を見つけられるような……そんな場所になれたらうれしいです。
多くの方に助けられて作品を完成することができました。心から感謝しています。ありがとうございました。

中之条町内の浅間岩に興味をもち、吾妻川を上って浅間山の麓まで行き、お念仏を聞いて、あるお宅のお庭にあった小さな浅間岩を借りてきました。そこにあるなんということのない岩から見えてくるそれぞれの景色を楽しんでもらえたら幸いです。出会って頂いた方々全員に感謝しています。

2023年初めて中之条ビエンナーレを訪れた。会場に向かう坂道を登っていた時だったか、不意に濃密な緑の香りに包み込まれた。六合に降りたった時、また違った透明な緑の香りに包み込まれた。思えば、コロナ以後毎日があまりに慌ただしくこんな心地よい空気のあることすら忘れていた。山に呼ばれ、人に誘われ、今ここにいます。今年中之条ビエンナーレを訪れる皆様にも新たな出会いと心の再生がもたらされますように。

第10回中之条ビエンナーレは、終戦80周年という節目の年でもあります。

この記念すべきビエンナーレのために「心の安らぎー国や地域で異なる平和のかたち」を制作しました。鑑賞者の方々が「平和」とは何か、そして、それが自分にとって何を意味するのか、改めて考えるきっかけになってくれることを願っています。この作品は、46カ国320人の想いを結集し、伊参スタジオで1ヶ月間、人々を一つに繋ぎます。

ご協力いただいた全ての方々、そして献身的にサポートしてくださったスタッフとボランティアの皆様に深く感謝申し上げます。

The 10th Nakanojo Biennale also marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
I created ‘Peace of Mind’ for the biennale in the hope that everyone will take a moment to reflect on the concept of ‘peace’ and what it means to them. The work brings together the thoughts of 320 individuals from 46 countries and unites them for one month in Isama Studio.
My thanks go to all the people who contributed to my project, and to the dedicated biennale staff and volunteers for their continued support.

​この町には、豊かな自然、古い町並み、そして温かい人々が息づいています。
​私は、この場所での制作を通して、自然の光や風、人々の営みから多くのインスピレーションを受けました。作品の中に、この町で出会ったすべてを閉じ込めたい、そんな思いで制作に臨んでいます。
​中之条ビエンナーレは、私にとって作品を発表する場であると同時に、この町と深く対話する貴重な時間です。作品を通じて、中之条の魅力を再発見し、感じてもらえたら嬉しいです。

中之条ビエンナーレ祝10回！

この地に根差し一体となって創り出される様々なアート作品は、10回目の今年もこの中之条のあちらこちらに様々な色の光をもたらすことでしょう。

今回の我々のテーマは「若山牧水」。
生涯を酒と旅、歌に遊んだ歌人・若山牧水は、群馬の山々や温泉をこよなく愛し、度々訪れています。
その時は、きっと地元の人たちと酒を酌み交わし、たくさんの歌を詠みあったことでしょう。
それらの歌は「光の種」となってその後様々な色の花を咲かせたに違いありません。

１年前の９月上旬、展示候補地を巡る下見会に参加するため、中之条町を初めて訪れた。男1女1老犬1の３名にて東京方面から自家用車で高速をぶっ放す。渋川ICを経由し、速度の中から吾妻線に近寄る風々と、木々の姿に沿いながら深呼吸する。運転手の男は次第に犬の姿へ。助手席の女は腹を空かせて、持参のおむすびを喰う。後部座席の老犬は、一体何処へ行ってしまったのだろうか？旧五反田学校の玄関ホールには、建物の皮膚と微妙に動く墨の匂いの中で、犬影が尻尾を振っている。教室の窓際から入る日差しは、なんとも優しい、、、。

今展の制作にあたり、中之条町を中心に吾妻地域の河川を巡りました。道中では、地元の皆さまからたびたび温かいご厚意をいただきました。川へ降りる場所を教えてくださった方、駐車スペースを快くお貸しくださった方、昔の川の風景を語ってくださった方、さらには地元ならではの隠れた名所をご紹介くださった方──。行く先々での親切なお心遣いに、心より感謝申し上げます。皆さまのお力添えにより、作品に土地の記憶と人の温もりが重なり、より深い奥行きを感じるものとなりました。

今回で5回目の中之条ビエンナーレ。旧吉田書店を舞台に壁画とインスタレーションを作りました。2016年に初めて訪れて以来、多くの出会いを重ねてきた中之条。町に暮らす人々の営みや文化、自然や豊かな緑、すべてが今回の作品の素材となりました。
This is my fifth time participating in the Nakanojo Biennale.　I produced a mural and an installation at the former Yoshida Bookstore. Since my first visit in 2016, Nakanojo has offered me many encounters. The lives and culture of the townspeople, the nature and abundant greenery I have experienced—all of it became the material for this work.

赤岩の制作を包んでくれた環境と、流れた幸せな時間が、作品になりました。湿地の泥炭が１年で１mm堆積する。記念すべきビエンナーレ10回の堆積は2cmですが、凝縮された芸術の可能性は計り知れない。自然と共に、自由に羽ばたく人の想像力が、また光の山へ。The environment in Akaiwa surrounded me and the happy times spent there became my work. Peat in the wetlands accumulates 1mm per year. During the 10th anniversary Biennale, only 2cm has accumulated, I believe the possibilities of art condensed in the past are immeasurable. With nature, the imagination of human, free to soar , will fly to the mountain of light again.

　４月、桜が満開、まだ肌寒い時期に２週間ちょっとやませでレジデンス制作しました。時折傍に降りてくる鳥たちのさえずり、山から聞こえるゴーという不気味な音、冷たい風が通り抜ける音・・・制作が進むにつれここの空気と自分が一体化していくようでした。
　在住の大島と違い海から遠く離れた中之条地域では、普段感じることがない空気を感じます。奥深い山々に神の存在を信じる感覚がよくわかります。
　半年ほど小さい蔵に存在し続ける自作品がどのような変貌を遂げていくのかみなさんと共に見届けていきたいと思っています。

My work often begins with ordinary, fragile materials—fabric, clothing, threads—yet they carry hidden memories and unspoken histories. In Nakanojo, I hope these materials breathe again, shaping a space where silence can be felt, and where personal memory quietly touches collective experience.

私の制作は、布や衣服、糸といった日常的で脆い素材から始まります。
しかし、それらは秘められた記憶や語られない歴史を抱えています。
中之条では、これらの素材に再び息を吹き込み、沈黙が感じ取られる空間を生み出したいと考えています。
そこでは、個人的な記憶がそっと集団的な経験に触れるのです。

光明制作所は作品を制作する際の共通理念として、「心の栄養を！」を掲げています。社会生活を営む上で必要な栄養の中には、ご飯を食べることや睡眠などで回復しない類のものが確かに存在しています。そのような栄養源としての作用が表現活動にはあると思うのです。私たちの制作活動やその結果としての作品が、しっかり心の栄養になることを目指しています。

15年以上ぶりに訪れた中之条町。
前に来た時の思い出が一気に込み上げてきた。
今回展示する四万温泉にある旧第三小学校は前回展示したと同じ会場。
歩くとぎしぎしと音がする木造の校舎がとても好きだ。
レジデンスから見える深い緑の山々、永遠に聞こえる川のせせらぎ。
地球の違う場所では今も爆弾が飛びかっているというのに、ここはとても静かで平穏だ。
今この瞬間に作品を作れることの幸せをて感じさせてくれた。
