ロンドンを拠点にコンテンポラリージュエリーにおける日本の「間」と身体の関係性と可能性について、身体を拡張させる実験的かつパフォーマティブなジュエリーを制作している。「ジュエリー=人+物体」という広義の概念を通して、現代社会における「間」を読み解いている。近年、インクルーシブアートやソーシャリー・エンゲイジド・アートの文脈の中で異分野と自身の研究を繋ぎ、研究やコラボレーションによるパフォーマンスなど国内外問わず活動中。
Miwa Kakuta is a Japanese artist based in London, with the support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs which is from the Japanese government this year. She graduated with a master degree in jewellery from the Royal College of Arts and continued her art practice in London to explore the intangible gap in our life and translate the motion of the figure in a performative way. In the context of contemporary jewellery artwork, she creates works on the relationship between the “Ma” and the physical body. “Ma” is a Japanese word that can be translated as emptiness, gap or pause. It is the space between objects, the silence between sounds, or the stillness between movements. Beyond the concept of jewellery, she is creating experimental objects with the concept of “Ma” that Japanese culture has, to wear and expand the body in the field of inclusive art and socially engaged art.
