(1) I draw from a variety of artistic practices reaching from land and public art to social sculptures, installation, photography, video, and artist books.
(2) Art continually has to create new images for the time we live in. For the conditions and issues we deal with: existentially, politically, physically, and globally. Searching such images is what I am aiming for.
(3) My work is often based on participation or embedded in local communities. I’m intrigued by encounters between art producers and the public. Audiences can make us learn better and see things we would not have known yet.

Richard Jochum is a media artist with a strong focus on installation, video, performance, and site-specific art. He is a studio member of the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts and an associate professor of art and art education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. A dual citizen of the United States and Austria, he received his PhD from the University of Vienna (1997) and an MFA in sculpture and media art from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (2001). His art work has been exhibited domestically and internationally in more than 200 exhibitions and screenings. He is represented by Gallery Lindner (Austria) and Gallery Bundo (South-Korea). One of his latest large-scale art installations has been a 30,000 square feet collaborative video mapping project onto the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn, New York. Recent solo exhibitions include Art Cluster Gallery (Brooklyn, 2018), Kiesler Foundation (Austria, 2018), Gallery Bundo (South Korea, 2018), Macy Gallery (New York, 2018). Recent public art projects include the the art park Hollufgaard (Denmark, 2017) and Land Art Biennial Mongolia (Murum Sum, 2018).
