行灯プロジェクトは2011年からはじまった吾妻中央高等学校とのコラボレーション企画です。
生徒達は、中之条ビエンナーレ2023のテーマである「見えない土地を辿る‐コスモグラフィア‐」にちなみ、紙をくしゃくしゃに握り、開いてできたシワから、偶然のかたちを辿る見えない土地の地図を描きました。

紙をくしゃくしゃにして、開いた時にできるシワ。
シワの凹凸を眺めると、山の稜線が見える。
インクを垂らせば、川が流れ、山が浮かび上がる。
紙を土地に見立てて、新しい地図を描こう。

The Paper Lantern Project started in 2011 as a collaboration between the Agatsuma Chuo High School Environmental Engineering Department and the Nakanojo Biennale. Each student received an image and explanation of artwork from the Nakanojo Biennale 2019 to think about. Afterward, students explained the work to each other in pairs, expanded the images from the words, and finished the artwork. Following the theme of the Nakanojo Biennale 2021, “From the Other Side of Perception – Paraperception-” students borrowed their friend’s perception and worked hard to create while feeling the ambiguity of words and sensations and the inconvenience of not being able to see images directly.
