わたしたち、北條知子［日本］とラヘル・クラフト［スイス］は、人々と場所の関わり合いにおいて無視されがちな音——目立たない、かすかで親密な音——を探す。音で満ち溢れてる世界の中で、人々は無意識のうちに、名も無い音たちと私的な関係を結んでいる。たとえば、ベッドのマットレスに反響する家族の寝息、鳥が枝にとまる際の羽音、暗闇で遠くの方から聞こえる誰かの声など、ありふれたそれでいて誰かにとって特別な音たち。人々、音そして場所の各々の関係性を再考するため、わたしたちは、記憶、想像そして知覚の増幅化を試みている。
制作の過程における土台となるのは、複数の解釈を可能とする個人的な聴取体験である。この「聴取」は、時に水源から湧き出た時にきこえるかすかな泡立ち音を見つけることであり、夜と昼の変化を学ぶことであり、また地域の住民に「『家』を想起させるのはどういう音か？」、「あなたの一番好きな音は何？」など、音に対する意識を問することにもなりうる。それぞれの場所における場／音の特性を綿密に調査すること、鮮やかなインスピレーションを得ること、そして異なる介入とともに音の触覚的な豊かさを集めることを通して、パフォーマンス、展覧会、あるいはオーディオウォークといった方法で、密やかな音の領域を具現化する。
We, Tomoko Hojo [JP] and Rahel Kraft [CH], seek for hidden, faint and intimate sounds, which are often inaudible in the relationship between people and place. Unconsciously, people have a personal relation to nameless sounds, in a world full of noise. For instance, the breathing of sleeping family members echoing on the mattress, flapping wings when a bird sits on a branch, someone’s voice heard far away in the darkness; these are ordinary but special sounds for someone. To rethink the individual relationship connecting people to sound and place, we experiment with the amplification of memory, fiction and perception.
Our process of creation is based on personal listening which has several interpretations. Sometimes it means to find tiny bubbling sounds from a water source, to study the transitions between night and day, or to question local residents on their awareness of sounds, such as ‘Which sounds create a feeling of home?’, ‘What is your favorite sound?’. Through researching deep into the site/sonic specificity of each place, getting vibrant inspirations and collecting the textural richness of sounds with different interventions, we attempt to embody a sphere of secret sounds in a variety of ways like performances, exhibitions or audio walks.
