born in Zürich (CH), lives and works in Basel(CH) and Berlin(D)
Franziska Furter lives and works in Basel, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany. She studied sculpture at the art academy in Basel and makes drawings since many years. Sometimes she works with ink or pencil on paper but she also uses materials like nylon strings, plastic foil, modelling mass, straws or textiles for her installations which she calls drawing as well. In the last few years she went on some residencies in Edinburgh, Paris, Cairo, Mallorca, Berlin and London. All those places left strong impressions on her and on her work. She is very much interested in visualisations of the invisible and one of her favourite topics is the weather which shapes our surroundings and our lives in so many ways. One of her newest works is a series of framed A5-drawings which is called ‘Ich taumeltürme’. It’s about appearing and disappearing, hiding, getting lost, fading away, obscuring and disguising. The title is the first sentence of a poem by the German Dada-Artist Kurt Schwitters and means something like ‘I will gone’.
