ワナウィット・パティープは、社会問題、文化的テーマ、地域の生活、そして環境的な文脈に焦点を当てた画家であり、ミクストメディアアーティストです。彼は現在、チェンマイ大学美術学部のビジュアル・アーツ学科で絵画分野の講師を務めています。タイ南部の農村で育った後、バンコクに移住して美術の学士号を取得し、さらにチェンマイ大学で美術の修士号と博士号を取得しました。故郷から首都、そして多様な文化的影響を受けた別の都市への移住という人生の転機は、彼の作品に大きな影響を与えました。地方での生活や伝統、文化に憧れを抱きながら大都市で暮らす彼の経験は、絵画やミクストメディア・アートを通して表現されています。
彼の作品は、バンコク芸術文化センターで開催されるバンコクアートビエンナーレ2022の展示に選ばれ、チェンマイブレス評議会の展覧会「Art for Air」にも出品されています。彼は、2024年の第15回UOB年間最優秀絵画コンペティションのプロフェッショナルアーティスト部門で銅賞、2017年の第65回全国芸術展のミックストメディア部門で銀賞、2015年の第63回全国芸術展のミックストメディア部門で第3位銅賞を受賞しました。現在は文化や伝統的な生活様式に取り組むだけでなく、自身の芸術的概念を環境問題にも広げています。
Wannawit Patteep, a painter and mixed media artist, focuses his work on social issues, cultural themes, local life, and environmental contexts. He is currently a lecturer in the Painting Division of the Visual Arts Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University. Growing up in a rural community in southern Thailand before moving to Bangkok to pursue his bachelor’s degree in fine arts, and later continuing his studies at Chiang Mai University where he earned both a master’s and a doctorate in fine arts, Wannawit’s life transitions—from his hometown to the capital and then to another city with diverse cultural influences—have significantly inspired his work. His experience of living in a large city while longing for rural life, traditions, and culture is conveyed through his paintings and mixed media art.
His work has been selected for exhibitions at the Bangkok Art Biennale 2022 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, and also for “Art for Air,” an exhibition by the Chiang Mai Breath Council. He received a Bronze Medal in the Professional Artist Category from the 15th UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 2024, a Silver Medal in Mixed Media at the 65th National Art Exhibition in 2017, and 3rd Bronze Honors in Mixed Media at the 63rd National Art Exhibition in 2015. Currently, in addition to addressing cultural and traditional ways of life, Wannawit has expanded his artistic concepts to include environmental issues.
