文化庁文化・芸術子ども育成推進事業「積み木であかりのワークショップ～童話を題材とした読書感想光～」は、光源にLED、反射材・遮蔽材に積み木を使い、「照明の良否は光源・反射・遮蔽等のバランスによる」との知見を子どもたちが学ぶアート・サイエンスコミュニケーション活動です。日本の小学校の図画工作科では光やあかりを取り扱った授業は数少ないため、私たちは、子どもたちの体験学習として教材開発と各地での普及実践に努めています。「あかりのありか」という題材童話はお話しのみで、光やあかり、いろとりどりの場所を旅する主人公の紙飛行機「こーき」以外の絵は描かれていません。子どもたちがこれを読んで想像した場面を、「読書感想光」としてLEDと積み木で表現し、お話しと合わせ「立体絵本」として完成させます。

The Agency for Cultural Affairs’ “Workshop on Light with Building Blocks – Reading Impressions of Fairy Tales with Light” is an art-science communication activity where children learn the knowledge that “the quality of lighting depends on the balance of the light source, reflection, and shielding” by using LEDs as the light source and building blocks as reflective and shielding materials. Since there are few classes in Japanese elementary school art courses that deal with light and lighting, we are working on developing teaching materials and promoting practical activities in various regions as experiential learning for children.The fairy tale “Akari no ARIKA (Where the Light Is)” is only a story, and there are no illustrations other than the protagonist, a paper airplane named “Koki,” who travels through various places with light and colors. Children read this story and imagine the scenes, expressing them with LEDs and building blocks as “reading impressions of light,” and combining them with the story to complete a “three-dimensional picture book.”
