西洋を起点に伝播した労働者向け近代住宅は、標準化された建築様式を形づくることに成功した。当然のようにプライバシーが守られる一方、世界から住宅が遊離することへつながり、住民は確固たる根をもたない存在となった。それはここ数年のパンデミックや戦争といった歴史的事象をもってして拍車がかかり、個人として籠る行為は他者との関わりや共助の場面を薄めた。
作中の登場人物たちも同じく、生活を支配する言語や権力などのStructure（構造）に対して反逆するほどの気力は有しておらず、真っ当に助けの声をあげることもしない。漠然と迫りくる終焉に対して、どこかここではない遠方へと憧れを抱きながら、独自の身振りで抵抗あるいは逃走を試みる。そのような部屋の断片を公共の場に立ち上げることで、領域自体が正確な距離では測れないものだと気づく。
The trend of modern housing complexes for workers that was brought to Japan from the west, resulted in the establishment of a certain architectural standard. Quite naturally, while protecting the residents’ privacy, the isolation of their living space from social life made them at once abstract and anonymous beings. Spurred by such historical events as a pandemic and wars that we have seen in recent years, humans developed a tendency to stay inside and by themselves, resulting in fewer opportunities to interact and spend time with others.
Likewise, the characters that appear in this work do not have the vigor to rebel against the structures of language and authority that regulate their lives, and they don’t really ask anyone to come to their aid. In the face of the end that vaguely lurks around the corner, they yearn for some other, faraway place, while at once each trying to resist or escape by their own unique gestures. Through partly recreating their living environment in a public space, it became clear that private domains as such cannot be defined by precise measurements.
