もし私が戦前に生まれていたら、当たり前のように愛国心を持ち、従軍画家に志願して
いたかもしれない。でも特段絵が上手い訳ではないので採用はされないだろう。
ヘルニア持ちだし、一般の徴兵検査にも通るかどうか…
そして敗戦。
日本は焼け野原になり、進駐軍がやって来た。私は日銭を稼ぐ手段として、進駐軍相手
に似顔絵を描き始めた。しかし適当な紙がなかった為、その辺に落ちている瓦に描いた。
これが米兵の間で評判になり、順番待ちの行列ができる日もあった。
私の他に、米兵のライフマスクを制作する者も現れた。
そんな進駐軍の似顔絵が70年振りにアメリカで発見された。

 

Had I been born before the war, it’s probable that I would have held a deep sense of patriotism,
and may even have applied to become a war artist.
Although I probably would have been rejected, since I’m not particularly skilled in drawing.
Plus, as a hernia sufferer, passing the medical would have been quite a challenge…
Defeat for Japan in the war left much of the country as burning ruins, and brought with it the
American occupation. In order to make a daily income, I began drawing portraits of soldiers in
the occupying forces. Without suitable paper fit for drawing, I drew the portraits on scattered
roof tiles that I’d picked up from the streets.
This became somewhat of a talking point among the soldiers, and on some days I would have
several people waiting in line to have their portrait drawn.
Besides me, other artists also sprung up, creating “life masks” of the faces of occupying troops.
Those portraits of occupying soldiers were recently discovered after 70 years in America.

2005年　東洋大学経済学部卒業後、商品先物取引会社に就職するも半年で倒産
一転してアーティストになる決心をする
2008年　東洋美術学校 絵画科 卒業

PROFILE

1983 Born in Chiba.
2005 After graduated from TOYO UNIVERSITY economics department,
I started working at a commodity futures trading company,which went bankrupt half a year later.
That was the turning point when I determined to become an artist.
2008 Department of painting course Toyo Institute of Art Design.
