数字の3（SAN）は、魂・精神・肉体という三位一体を象徴し、古くからさまざまな宗教において重要な数字とされてきました。私たちが生きる三次元世界もまた、縦・横・高さという3つの座標で構成されています。そして、「過去・現在・未来」「上・中・下」「朝・昼・晩」など、世の中には「3つ」で表される概念が数多く存在します。
しかし、現代を生きる私たちは、「善と悪」「正と負」といった二元論に縛られがちです。本来、自然の中で生きていれば、「正しさ」と「間違い」の境界は曖昧であり、完全なる正義など存在しないことは自明のはずです。しかし、その事実から目を背けることで、世界の状況は悪化の一途を辿っているように見えます。だからこそ、今の時代にこそ、東洋思想における「中庸」、そして二元論を超える概念である３（SAN）の価値を大切にしたいと私たちは考えています。
この理念を体現するユニット「SAN」は、現代美術作家の橋本仁、作曲家・音環境デザイナーの福田基、アートプロデューサーの柳沢ゆかりによって、2024年に結成されました。各分野で10年以上の実績を持つ3名が結集し、ジャンルの枠にとらわれない新たなアートの創出を目指して、音楽と絵画表現を融合させたライブアートパフォーマンスを展開しています
The art collective “SAN” consists of contemporary visual artist Jin HASHIMOTO, composer and sound environment designer Hajime FUKUDA, who is based in Berlin and Hokkaido, and art producer/trilingual art coordinator Yukari YANAGISAWA. The group was officially established in 2024 after a chance encounter in Osaka in 2023, and they are confirmed to participate in the Nakanojo Biennale in 2025.
The name of the group, “SAN (3),” represents the trinity of soul, spirit, and body, a number that has been considered a significant symbol throughout human history. In modern times, we are often influenced by dualistic concepts such as “good and evil” or “positive and negative.” However, the name “SAN” emphasizes the importance of balance in Eastern philosophy, particularly the “middle way,” and conveys a concept that transcends dualism. Through Fukuda’s music, which captures the energy of spaces, and Hashimoto’s visual creations, the group presents unique and innovative live performances.
