齋木三男さんは石彫で掌の仏を彫ります。手で撫でながら祈りを奉げる為のものだと思います。佐藤宗太郎さんは長くインドの石仏を研究していましたが今はにおいで仏を表現しています。中島雄一さんは世界で五台しかない手ハンドルミシンを駆使して小倉遊亀作観自在菩薩を刺繍で表現しました。三輪途道は高崎の白衣観音を私なりの解釈で「白い存在」として作り、また倉渕町の東善寺の為に小栗上野介を偲ぶ「小栗観音」を作りました。
我々のほとけは手で撫でることによってこそ祈りの存在になります。
Mitsuo Saiki carves palm-sized Buddhas from stone, which are meant to be caressed by hand as a form of prayer. Sotaro Sato, who has long researched Indian stone Buddhas, now expresses Buddhas through scent. Yuichi Nakajima utilized one of only five special hand-cranked sewing machines in the world to embroider Ogura Yuki’s depiction of Kannon Bosatsu (the Bodhisattva of Compassion). Michiyo Miwa re-created Takasaki’s Byakue Kannon (White-Robed Kannon) as “White Presence,” based on her own interpretation, and also created “Oguri Kannon” for Tōzen-ji Temple in Kurabuchi Town, in memory of Oguri Kozukenosuke. Our Buddhas become objects of prayer when they are caressed by hand.
