心に浮かんだものを水に浮かべる Floating What Comes to Mind on Water

美術作品の魅力のひとつは言葉で表現できないところにあります。言葉の使用が苦手な特別支援学校の皆さんとのワークショップで私は改めてそれを実感しました。「彼らがいつも心に思い浮かべているものは何だろう？」そう考えた私は、彼らに水に浮かぶ作品を作ってもらいました。彼らを補助する大人は彼らが自由に制作することの邪魔をしてはいけません。「もっとたくさん色を塗ろうよ」「ほかの人のように大きく作ろうよ」などは私もいつも言っています。しかしそれは私が楽をして安易に彼らを指導したいだけだと彼らに気付かせてもらいました。彼らは心に浮かぶものを水に浮かぶ作品にしました。それは彼らの自由が表現された美しい美術作品です。

2025年6月7月に吾妻特別支援学校中学部・高等部に向けてワークショップを実施しました。

One of the attractions of art is that it can express what words cannot. I was reminded of this during a workshop with students from a special needs school, many of whom struggle with using language. I wondered, “What are they thinking about?” Taking this question into consideration, I asked them to create artworks that float on water. It was important that the adults assisting them didn’t interfere with their freedom to create. I often say things like, “Let’s add more color” or “Let’s make it bigger like the others.” But through this experience, they helped me realize that those suggestions were more about making my job easier than actually supporting the students. They turned what was in their minds into floating works of art. What they created was a beautiful expression of their own freedom.

Workshops were conducted from June to July 2025 for junior high and high school students of AGATUMA Special Needs School.
