遥か昔、湖が広がり、遡れば海だった中之条。火山活動の影響を強く受けた歴史があり、堆積、侵食を繰り返したこの地の複雑な地質に興味が湧き、急峻でダイナミックな地形を探ることにした。
古代の人々の生活の源でもあった吾妻地域の川沿いを巡り、川砂を採取した。
一粒一粒が、かつて山で目覚め、流れのなかで形を変え、たゆたい、記憶を宿しながら移ろう。悠久の小さな旅人たちは、何をささやきかけるだろう。

Long ago, Nakanojo was an expanse of lakes. Further back in time, it was the sea. The area’s complex geology, strongly influenced by volcanic activity and subject to repeated deposition and erosion, piqued my interest. I decided to explore its steep and dynamic topography. I moved along rivers in the Agatsuma region, the source of life for people in ancient times, and collected river sand. Each grain of sand originated in the mountains, changed shape in the currents, and traveled, carrying its memories. What will these little travelers of eternity whisper to us?
Remarks: The Gunma Prefecture Nakanojo Civil Engineering Office has granted permission to collect and use river sand.
