移動による心理的、物理的な意味が変化する状態、あるいは作業プロセスとして生じるコラボレーションおよびコミュニケーションにおける事柄の意味の変化に遭遇することに興味を持っている。作品のなかでは、私たちの現実が多くのフィクションで形づくられていると捉えて、メディアによって生み出されるフィクションを確かめようとしている。

My work investigates the way daily media generates all manners of fiction, therefore shaping our reality. I’m interested in encountering the shifts in the meaning of things in psychological or physical dislocation, or collaboration and communication that arises as working processes. To perceive these processes, I record what remains necessary to me.

東京藝術大学大学院博士後期課程修了。サンドベルグ・インスティテュート（アムステルダム・オランダ）、デュッセルドルフ芸術アカデミー（ドイツ）ともに修士課程修了。

Umehara has received a doctral degree from Tokyo University of the Arts, and master’s degrees from Sandberg Institut in Amsterdam, Holland and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany.
